Bill Brandt | Henry Moore
Task 1: The photographer Bill Brandt (1904-1983) and the sculptor Henry Moore (1898–1986) met during the second world war, when they both created images of civilians sheltering from the Blitz in the London Underground. The places in which this exhibition is showcased, brings together over 200 works highlighting the relationships between sculpture, photography, drawing and collage revealed through Brandt and Moore’s shared interests in the subjects and themes of labour, society, industry, the British landscape and the human body. Moore’s celebrated Reclining Figure sculptures and Brandt’s well-known photographs of coal miners and their families in Durham and Yorkshire are on display, alongside rare original colour transparencies by Brandt, and Moore’s little-known photo collages.

Task 4: The task given to us was to interpret photography through Bill Brandt and Henry Moores influence. It was our job to make ordinary 'small' objects look big through angles and perspective shooting through a camera. It is all about how you can see an item or an object in a different light and make them appear much bigger than originally presented. We went to the Priory Gardens to take photos, as this was filled with tress, rocks and sculptures which could be photographed into greater looking objects. This benefited us as we could get up close and personal to the objects and use our time to photograph each object in their style.

These two photographs are the ones which I took and managed to achieve the realistic perspective look which Brandt and Moore showcase throughout their work. Both of their work is dramatic and real in the perspective of what you are seeing is appealing to the eye. It's the first thing you see and notice when looking at the photos and even through my work, the sudden realism it brings, ties my work, Brandt & Moore together. next time to improve, I would go back and reshoot from lower angles, or even use different objects to make my backgrounds look smaller.

Before this project I had little knowledge on these two artists and what they did, but after some research I now know all about Bill Brandt and Henry Moore. Their work has inspired me and through that I have been able to construct some of my own pieces through some of their sculptures and works.
