THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT (1999)

THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT 8/10 THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT is about three young filmmakers, Heather Donahue, Michael Williams and Josh Leonard (actors with same names as their characters), who go out into the woods of Burkittesville, Maryland to document the mythical Blair Witch for a project. They are never found, but a year later their footage is discovered. I didn’t find the Movie scary, it was just filled with a lot of suspense and tension, especially between actors. It was an excellent idea with the original plot and execution. The way the actors demonstrated genuine reactions and believable dialogue really tie the whole film together. Most of the lines were improvised, so for them to produce such a fluent and realistic performance is impressive. The actors themselves did an amazing job, even some of the more exaggerated scenes still felt chillingly real. We might see THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT as something which is ‘overhyped’ but for its time (1999) nothing had been seen like this ...

From Pencils To Pixels

From Pencils To Pixels  This documentary was a celebration of the world of animated feature film and whether there is a future for the traditional animated techniques in modernized film and editing software. It shows the history of film, how we got to where we are to this day, providing us with an inside look at how animations are made and how they are then constructed using a digital format. It included the first look at a digitally made film-like, Finding Nemo and Toy Story alongside the more originally drawn and handcrafted movies like  Spirited Away and Snow White.   (The process of animated film advancing through time to the modern-day digital format)

The Praxinoscope

Definition: The Praxinoscope is a toy whose function is to create a series of images that constantly change and consist of drawings that follow an order and sequence which are placed on a rotating cylinder which shows twelve frames for animation. It was invented in France in 1877 by Charles-Emile Reynaud

The Zoetrope

Definition: William Ensign Lincoln invented the Zoetrope in 1865. It consists of a cylinder with slits cut vertically in the sides.  As the cylinder spins, the user looks through the slits at the pictures across. It was basically a cylindrical variation of the Phénakisticope, suggested almost immediately after the stroboscopic discs were introduced in 1833.

Connotations Through Photos

The connotations through pictures, demonstrated in a artistic form of expression. we were given a task of showing our interpretation of words through a series of pictures captured by our group. [Millie, Meg and Sophie] Loneliness The isolation from the rest of the world and longlines into the distance is the purest form of loneliness. The slouched posture and heavy gaze connotes the separation from the rest of the community with no escape. Poverty  The abandonment and sadness through this photo connotes the poor health and low mood of the person trying to survive outside in the harsh weathers. The isolation and rejection from society leaves us questioning into how they got into that situation.  Fear The fear of being caught and the suspense into wanting more is displayed in this image. The girl just being discovered leaves us wanting to know what happens next, even if it is shown through pictures. Love The two hands touching through the glass is a powerful connotation ...
