The Zoetrope
Definition: William Ensign Lincoln invented the Zoetrope in
1865. It consists of a cylinder with slits cut vertically in the sides. As the cylinder spins, the user looks through
the slits at the pictures across. It was basically a cylindrical variation of
the Phénakisticope, suggested almost immediately after the stroboscopic discs
were introduced in 1833.
